Village Administrator at Machakos County Public Service Board

Village Administrator.  Machakos County, nicknamed ‘Macha,’ was the first capital city of Kenya and is now an administrative county in Kenya. Machakos is made up of eight (8) constituencies including Machakos Town, Mavoko, Masinga, Yatta, Kangundo, Kathiani, Matungulu, and Mwala. Machakos Town is the administrative capital of the County.

Machakos County borders Nairobi and Kiambu counties to the West, Embu to the North, Kitui to the East, Makueni to the South, Kajiado to the South West, and Murang’a and Kirinyaga to the North West. Machakos County stretches from latitudes 0º 45’ South to 1º 31’ South and longitudes 36° 45’ East to 37° 45’ East. The county has an altitude of 1000 – 1600 meters above sea level. Our City operates under a Council-Manager form of government and has done so since 1932. The two major components to this system of government are the City Council; and a City Manager. The City Council is the legislative body, establishing City policies, while the City Manager is the administrator, designated to carry out the directives of the Council. Our City’s City Council consists of a Mayor elected at large and six Council Members elected by district. The Mayor and Council Members serve 4 year terms.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Overseeing local services such as water supply, waste management, and basic infrastructure
  • Executing policies and programs set by the Machakos county government at the village level, ensuring alignment with local needs.
  • Maintaining village records, including population statistics, property records, and administrative documents.
  • Collaborating with local security agencies to maintain law and order within the village.
  • Organizing public meetings, gathering feedback from residents, and addressing concerns raised by the community.
  • Coordinating and supervising development projects in the village, such as road maintenance, schools, and healthcare facilities.
  • Acting as a mediator in community disputes and assisting in solving conflicts within the village.
  • Reporting to county officials on village matters, including infrastructure status, social issues, and project progress.
  • Identifying and mobilizing resources for village projects, including partnerships with NGOs and local businesses.
Requirements of Appointment
  • Diploma in any of the following disciplines:- Public Administration. Business Administration/Management. Community Development or any other social science from a recognized institution.
  • Certificate in computer applications from a recognized institutions

Candidates with foreign Qualifications should get clearance from the Commission for University Education (CUE). It is a criminal offence to present fake certificates/documents.
