Job Purpose
- The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing the preparation of financial statements, managing client accounting assignments, supporting audit engagements, and ensuring compliance with International Financial Reporting Standards (IFRS) and relevant tax laws in Kenya. The role involves supervising junior staff, reviewing their work, and providing professional guidance to ensure the firm delivers high-quality accounting and assurance services to its clients.
Job Description
Financial Accounting & Reporting
- Prepare and review financial statements in compliance with IFRS and local regulations.
- Manage bookkeeping, reconciliations, and monthly management accounts for assigned clients.
- Ensure accuracy and timeliness of financial reporting.
- Review general ledger entries, journal adjustments, and trial balances.
Audit Support
- Assist in planning and executing audit engagements in line with International Standards on Auditing (ISAs).
- Perform audit testing, risk assessments, and analytical reviews.
- Supervise junior audit staff, review working papers, and ensure audit files meet the firm’s quality standards.
- Draft management letters and audit reports for partner review.
Tax Compliance & Advisory
- Prepare and review tax computations (corporate, PAYE, VAT, and withholding taxes) in line with Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) requirements.
- Support clients in filing tax returns and responding to KRA queries or audits.
- Provide basic tax planning and compliance advice.
Client Relationship Management
- Serve as the main point of contact for assigned clients.
- Maintain professional relationships through effective communication and client support.
- Identify opportunities to cross-sell the firm’s services (e.g., audit, advisory, tax).
Staff Supervision & Training
- Supervise and mentor junior accountants and audit assistants.
- Review their work for accuracy, completeness, and compliance with firm procedures.
- Participate in internal training and knowledge-sharing initiatives.
Job Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Commerce, or a related field.
- CPA (K) or ACCA qualification (finalist or fully qualified).
- Minimum of 3–5 years’ experience in an audit and accounting firm.
- Strong knowledge of IFRS, ISAs, and Kenyan tax laws.
- Experience with accounting software.
