Management Accountant Description

MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTANT JOB DESCRIPTION

Crawford International School is seeking to hire a Management Accountant who will:

  • Coordinate all matters relating to finance, accounting, treasury, taxes, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Ensure deadlines are met, reporting done timeously and group Finance reporting requirements are met.
  • Maintain compliance with company policies and procedures, processes and statutory requirements.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Cashbook and Treasury

  • Ensure daily Cashbook processing/allocation is accurate and complete for all accounts.
  • Ensure Bank reconciliations are performed daily.
  • Manage Petty Cash/Credit Cards
  • Manage Bank administration and relationships with bank.
  • Maintain weekly cashflow’s and cash planning/distribution.
  • Manage Fixed Deposits and investment maturities and re-investments.

Accounts Payable

  • Maintain accurate processing of expenses and supplier invoices.
  • Ensure procurement policies are followed and implemented.
  • Scrutinize validity of expenses against budgets and forecast
  • Prepare supplier reconciliations and payment packs for weekly payments.
  • Accurate Withholding Tax allocations
  • Ensure TIMS/ETIMS compliance for all supplier invoices.
  • Prepare monthly Creditors Age Analysis for status updates and feedback.

General Ledger and Accounting

  • Maintain Sage general ledger structure and chart of accounts.
  • Prepare all month-end journals and accrual entries with supporting schedules.
  • Ensure that the fixed asset register is updated regularly and reconcile with the general ledger and prepare depreciation schedule and journals.
  • Work closely with all departments to ensure that accounting transactions are processed timeously and accurately, in accordance with the month end reporting timetable.
  • Maintain and reconcile group loans.
  • Maintain and file all supporting documents for audit purposes.
  • Assist with both internal and external audits and preparation of audit files.

Payroll Preparation

  • Assist in payroll preparation by providing relevant employee information and resolving any discrepancies.
  • Prepare monthly payroll reconciliations and payroll journals.

Statutory Compliance

  • Submit monthly withholding tax to KRA.
  • Submit monthly VAT on imported services to KRA.
  • Ensure monthly PAYE and VAT returns are filed.
  • Obtain monthly Withholding tax on interest certificates from the bank.
  • Assist with annual preparation of corporate tax liability.
  • Ensure overall compliance of all taxes within statutory deadlines.
  • Prepare monthly compliance reports.

Reporting and Management Accounts

  • Compile and manage the company’s Annual budget and revised forecast or budgets.
  • Prepare monthly expense analysis against budget and provide reasons.
  • Prepare monthly management accounts, with actuals vs budget variance analysis and performance commentary.
  • Prepare Balance sheet reconciliations with linked supporting documentation.
  • Prepare Journal reconciliations with linked supporting documentation.
  • Prepare Half year and year end results and reports.
  • Cost Saving analysis and other financial analysis.

Minimum requirements and Competencies

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance
  • CPA or ACCA
  • Detailed knowledge and experience in implementing or working with large ERP software packages.
  • Advanced MS Excel knowledge and experience with MS Office
  • Generally accepted accounting and bookkeeping principles and procedures and EFRS
  • Time Management. Ensuring all targets and objectives are met on set deadlines.
  • High attention to detail and meticulous.
  • Clear and accurate communication and presentation skills
  • Decision making skills and use of discernment.
  • Critical thinker and problem solver. Using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses within situations and provide alternative solutions, conclusions or approaches to problems.
  • Risk Management
