Customs Clearing Agent (Air and Sea)

  • Are you a licensed and experienced Clearing Agent with a deep understanding of Kenya’s customs clearance processes? Join our dynamic logistics team and play a critical role in facilitating efficient and seamless cargo clearance for both air and sea shipments. 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Manage end-to-end customs clearance processes for all types of goods, ensuring compliance with Kenyan customs and regulatory requirements. 
  • Prepare and submit customs declarations, manifests, and other documentation through the Kenya Customs Management System (KRA Simba System/ICMS). 
  • Liaise with the Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA), Kenya Ports Authority (KPA), Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), and other regulatory bodies. 
  • Ensure compliance with the East African Customs Management Act (EACMA) and other applicable laws. 
  • Obtain and process relevant permits and certificates, such as KEBS (Certificate of Conformity), IDF (Import Declaration Form), KEPHIS clearance, and Port Health permits. 
  • Conduct pre-arrival clearance to minimize delays and ensure timely delivery of shipments. 
  • Handle duties, taxes, exemptions, and tariff classifications, including applying the Harmonized System (HS) codes for accurate duty computation. 
  • Address and resolve disputes, fines, or penalties related to customs processes. 
  • Monitor shipment progress and provide regular updates to clients and management. 

Qualifications and Experience: 

  • Must hold a valid Clearing and Forwarding License (C11 Certification or its equivalent).
  • Proficiency in using the KRA Simba System and Integrated Customs Management System (ICMS). 
  • At least 2 years of hands-on experience in air and sea freight clearance. 
  • Demonstrated experience handling high-volume and varied shipments, including sensitive and restricted goods. 
  • Strong understanding of the Harmonized System (HS) code classification and tax computation. 
  • Knowledge of regulatory bodies’ compliance requirements, including KEBS, KEPHIS, Port Health, and others. 
  • Ability to prepare and process duty drawback claims, exemptions, and other incentives. 
  • Familiarity with customs warehousing processes and bonded cargo procedures. 
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to handle clearance disputes and operational challenges. 

Key Competencies: 

  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills for dealing with customs officials, port authorities, and other stakeholders. 
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to manage multiple clearances simultaneously. 
  • In-depth understanding of Kenya’s customs laws and regulations, including EACMA and related directives. 
  • Ability to handle and prioritize time-sensitive shipments efficiently.
