The Material Take-off Officer – Electrical is responsible for extracting and quantifying all electrical materials and components from engineering drawings and specifications. This role supports accurate cost estimation, procurement planning, and on-site implementation. With a strong electrical background, the officer ensures all takeoffs are precise and aligned with technical requirements and project timelines. Material Take-off Officer of Key Responsibilities:
Electrical Material Takeoff
- Analyze and interpret electrical design drawings, schematics, and specifications (LV, MV, HV systems).
Prepare detailed material takeoff sheets for electrical systems including:
- Conduits, trunking, cable trays
- Power and control cables
- Lighting fixtures
- Switchgear, panels, distribution boards
- Sockets, switches, sensors, and terminations
- Fire alarms, CCTV, access control, data and communication systems
- Measure and record quantities in line with the relevant codes and project requirements.
Coordination & Review
- Coordinate with design and engineering teams to clarify any discrepancies or design ambiguities.
- Work closely with procurement to provide quantity breakdowns for vendor sourcing and tender evaluation.
- Collaborate with site engineers and subcontractors to validate quantities and resolve mismatches between drawings and on-site conditions.
Documentation & Reporting
- Prepare comprehensive takeoff reports with technical descriptions and unit breakdowns.
- Maintain a central database for all electrical material quantities.
- Track revisions in drawings and update material takeoffs accordingly to reflect changes.
Estimation & Cost Planning Support
- Provide material quantities for use in cost estimation and budgeting.
- Support the QS/Estimating team in developing Bills of Quantities (BoQs) and Cost Schedules.
- Contribute to value engineering by proposing material alternatives based on availability, cost, and performance.
Quality, Compliance & Safety
- Ensure material takeoffs comply with project technical specifications, codes (e.g., IEC, NEC), and local authority standards.
- Support QA/QC processes by aligning quantities with approved shop drawings.
- Promote sustainable and cost-effective material usage through accurate planning.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Building Services Engineering, or a related field.
- Certification or membership with a recognized professional body (e.g., EBK, IEK, IET, IEEE) is an advantage.
Experience as Material Take-off Officer:
- Minimum Four (4) years of relevant experience in electrical takeoff roles within the engineering and construction industry.
- Strong knowledge of building services and infrastructure projects (commercial, residential, industrial).
