Job Description 

 Role Purpose Statement:

  • Under the general direction and guidance of the Director of Operations, the Security Manager implements, enforces and coordinates security systems, procedures and airline security programme in order to meet Jambojet objectives, the requirements of Kenya Civil Aviation Authority and International Civil Aviation Regulations. This role leads the security team in implementing and maintaining security measures to protect passengers, employees, assets, and company interests within industry standards, Jambojet policies, regulations and relevant laws. The Security Manager is responsible for conducting security training, quality control, risk management, and comprehensive reporting to maintain the highest level of security across all Jambojet operations.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain comprehensive security policies, procedures, and programs to meet local and international aviation security standards; and ensure security services standards and operating procedures align with Jambojet policies and industry benchmarks.
  • Continuously conduct audits, inspections and assessments of security threats and risks to Jambojet operations, implement corrective actions to ensure the safety and security of staff, passengers, property, and aircrafts.
  • Collaborate closely with relevant authorities, including KAA, KCAA and the security/ intelligence agencies to identify, mitigate, and manage arising threats and risks effectively
  • Oversee passenger and baggage screening processes and activities, to ensure adherence to security protocols and regulations.
  • Manage access control systems, procedures, and the issuance, auditing, and inventory of security-controlled area passes to secure Jambojet facilities, aircrafts, and sensitive areascomprehensively.
  • Ensure strict compliance with aviation security regulations, including those of KCAA, KAA and relevant International Authorities, while collaborating with relevant stakeholders for security measures and information sharing.
  • Develop and maintain emergency response plans and procedures for security-related incidents, conducting drills and exercises to ensure preparedness.
  • Coordinate gathering of intelligence on potential and actual violations, acts of unlawful interference against operations and analyse, collect data and initiate counter measures.
  • Oversee the reporting of security incidents, threats, and breaches, conduct and facilitate investigations and implement corrective actions.
  • Lead and coordinate comprehensive security training programs, including aviation security (AVSEC) initiatives for security personnel, and employees at all levels within Jambojet to enhance security awareness, readiness, and compliance with regulations.
  • Manage relationships with security service providers and vendors to ensure the quality and effectiveness of security services.
  • Effectively manage the security budget, optimizing resource allocation while maintaining security standards.
  • Lead investigations into violations, criminal activities and malpractices, implementing robust procedures and reporting, while also reviewing and promptly responding to security-related intelligence reports on emerging threats.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage team members to foster a cohesive team and achieve objectives.

Know-How:

  • Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in aviation security management practices, and familiarity with relevant laws including the Criminal Procedure Code, Evidence Act, and the Penal Code.
  • Management Skills: Demonstrated capability to lead security teams, strategize on security policies, and manage security projects.
  • Human Relations Skills: Strong ability to collaborate with internal teams, outsourced security services, and external stakeholders.
  • Specialized Knowledge: In-depth knowledge of IOSA standards, international and national regulations, and aviation security best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Education: Minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Aviation Management or a related field from a recognized university.
  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of experience in a dynamic airline security management environment.
  • Certifications: Relevant industry certifications.
