Job Description 

 Purpose Of Role:

  • We are an experienced developer of and investor in clean and renewable energy projects with the ability to finance, own and operate such projects through proprietary structures.
  • We are looking to add a Technical Operations Manager whose role will be to manage the implementation and maintenance of Solar PV and Battery projects and assets. The Technical Operations Manager should have experience in managing a technical team, rolling out and maintaining grid-tied solar PV plants and off-grid hybrid PV-battery projects of a commercial scale.

The Objectives Of The Roles Are:

  • Ensure effective delivery of all scope defined in the Project Installation and O&M contracts.
  • Deliver effective client communications and maintain positive relationships with all stakeholders in project
  • Leading of the Project Execution and Asset Management Teams for best performance
  • Coordination of all staff to ensure best utilization of resources

The position is based in Nairobi. The Technical Operations Manager will report to the Head of Engineering. It is expected that significant travel will be involved in this role as you will be visiting sites around the country and in neighbouring countries.
Educational background -

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering with a focus on mechanical or electrical engineering.
  • Four years minimum, 5+ years preferred of proven working experience on commercial scale solar PV projects.
  • Registration with a professional body such as EPRA

Skills And Knowledge

  • Strong HR abilities. Proven track record of managing teams of 5+ technical staff, settings and reviewing KPIs and managing disciplinary procedures with a strong knowledge of applicable labour laws
  • Experience in rolling out and maintaining commercial scale PV projects of 500kWp or more
  • Strong technical knowledge of all solar PV and battery technology concepts
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including technical report writing
  • Knowledgeable in commonly used construction and maintenance contracts
  • Budgets tracking and financial planning and reporting
  • Experience of major project management tools
  • Strong systems thinking to streamline and standardize operations with policies and procedures
  • Ability to analyse data to suggest improvements and troubleshoot system faults
  • Proficient in English and Swahili, written and verbal
  • Experience working in multiple countries and regions
  • Demonstrated leadership and motivational skills. Focus on mentoring team members towards their career goals
